Liberal Bloggers, Politico On Top Of Tony Snow’s Mind
June 14, 2007 at 4:49 pm
From today’s White House news briefing with Tony Snow:
MR. SNOW: We are a little bit concerned about some reports on the Internet that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, in a conversation with liberal bloggers, had referred to General Pete Pace, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, as incompetent, and apparently, again according to the reports, had said disparaging things also about General David Petraeus. We certainly hope it’s not true, because in a time of war, for a leader of a party that says it supports the military, it seems outrageous to be issuing slanders toward the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs and also the man who is responsible for the bulk of military operations in Iraq. Indeed, Senator Reid has, at some point, declared the war lost, and also has declared the surge a failure, even though it has not yet been fully enacted. I don’t know if it’s true or not. If it is true, I certainly hope he does apologize.
Q How come you didn’t wait to find out? Why the preemptive strike?
MR. SNOW: Well, I just think it’s appropriate to comment on it.
Q Whether or not it’s true?
Q That things are outrageous, but you don’t know whether they are or not they are true.
MR. SNOW: Well, do you trust the Politico? I don’t know.

Why should anyone trust the Politico, the Drudge Report or Instapundit? They’re nothing more than cogs in the right wing noise machine.

Do you ever read those sources? Especially the last one? I am guessing not.

“Do you ever read those sources? Especially the last one?”
Yes I do read them because I want to understand how people have become so confused about basic factual information that our presidential primaries are dedicated to debating the finer points of creationism.

Today, The Drudge Report contains numerous stories about some kind of violence in the Gaza Strip. Something about Hamas and Fatah… But, you know, you can’t trust the Right Wing Noise Machine(TM), so I’m sure it couldn’t possibly be true… And, by extrapolation, I’m sure Harry Reid couldn’t possibly have said those crazy things. Because that would be, you know, just weird and wacky.

Rob: You just don’t know your place. The liberals are superior human beings to the rest of us. I’ve learned my place. Harry Reid is a genius. Hillary is a moral exemplar. Ted Kennedy is an expert on immigration. The MSM is an objective observer of the passing parade. Bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzztph, I can’t keep a straight face anymore. Sorry, if I got any spray on your screen.

Mr. Snow is being quietly generous to Reid, who will now have the opportunity to retract his ill-considered remarks about the surge while denying these comments about Casey and Petraeus, which would otherwise be wholly consistent with what we’ve come to expect from the Senator from Utah.

Drudge Report may be right-wing (not obvious to me), but it is most definitely not a news sources. Rather, it is largely a collection of links to actual news reports. Occasionally there is a ’scoop’, but that is rather rare. It dwells at length on some information typically useful only to Hollywood, but I guess that is to be expected, as Drudge lives in or near Hollywood.

MR. SNOW: We are a little bit concerned about one anonymously sourced report on the Internet that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid referred to General Pete Pace, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, as competent. He’s not the least bit competent. That’s why he’ll be spending more time with his family.
I find it deeply troubling that Snow might have said this.

Nevada. Don’t blame us Utahns for Reid’s outbursts. We’d never put a Dem in the Senate.

??? Are you really inferring that Reynolds, or his general audience, are creationism kooks? Because if you are, you’ve basically put a very large hat on which says “Ignore me, for I have not a clue as to what I am talking about”. Perhaps you should invest more time in learning some more “basic factual information” before tarring a bunch of people you apparently know nothing about.

Sure, because an anonymous commenter on a blog is every bit as credible as The Politico (whatever that is.)

So, the right-wing Politico got it right, and the four liberal bloggers all lied to try to cover for Reid. Which group does antiphone look to for “the truth”?
When does antiphone write and acknowledge that his “truthtellers” were all lying about this, and his “liars” were all telling the truth?
Oh, and as long as the rhetorical questions are coming to mind, when is that we can finally call the Democrats unpatriotic? The Senate Majority Leader defames the top general in the DoD and the top general leading troops currently in battle against the enemy, and the enemy immediately uses it for propaganda purposes. Is there any better time to call him unpatriotic?
Antiphone, any input here?
Rob said,

Diggs, I fully concur. All joking aside, what Mr. Reid said was reprehensible. Unfortunately, this has become a broken record. How often must we pick up the pieces after incidents like these? When will Mr. Reid, and those like him, understand the nature of the war we’re fighting? Our troops deserve better. Americans deserve better. The people of Iraq and Afghanistan deserve better. Oh for the days of Democrats like Harry Truman…

Can General Pace be incompetent? If he is, can anyone say it? Can you give us a list of who we can say is incompetent and who we have to shut up about?
Talk about a lack of accountability!
