HBO’s new documentary “The Journalist and The Jihadi: The Murder of Daniel Pearl” has some amazing video of both Pearl and Omar Sheikh before Pearl’s early 2002 murder in Pakistan.  But most gripping for me is the opening scene, where 9/11 is relived.  The program shows video of people jumping from the World Trade Center — I believe this is the widest audience that footage has ever reached.

Of what value is KSM’s “confession” from a CIA “secret” prison?

One of the many deplorable things about torture is that is renders all confessions useless. A person under torture may “confess” out of anguish, rage at the torturers, to seek relief, because it’s true and any number of other conflicting reasons. A torture confession is worse than useless.

I have rarely been so ashamed of my country–to adopt the practices of the most repulsive countries in the world, and for what? We soil our nation and gain nothing at all.
