On Thursday night, when John McCain climbs that stage and makes those few final steps to the podium to accept his partys nomination for the highest office in the land, he will know, and we will know, and all those who have ever been crossed off a list, written off, or counted as roadkill will know, there is nothing more powerful than a man or woman who, against all odds, and with no one there to applaud the action, summons the courage to continue believing.
