Hellgate

Not quite Watergate or Billygate or Troopergate or even Irancontragate, but consider:
Mike Huckabee, asked at last night’s Fox News South Carolina debate about the incident last week when Iranian boats swarmed US navy ships in the Strait of Hormuz: “Be prepared, first, to put your sights on the American vessel. And then be prepared that the next thing you see will be the gates of Hell, because that is exactly what you will see after that.”
John McCain, at an earlier debate, on Osama bin Laden: “I’ll follow him to the gates of Hell.”
Perhaps at this point it’s best to just turn the mic over to The Clash.
UPDATE: Shame on us. We neglected to include Tom Petty. A loyal reader reminds us: “You can stand me up at the gates of hell, but I won’t back down.” Indeed. But for more punch, let’s go with Johnny Cash … and the U.S. Army.
