No, because of West Virginia we are blessed with assertions like Hillary Clinton’s:

Implying that the party could lose in November if he is the nominee, Clinton told patrons of Tudor’s Biscuit World in Charleston: “I keep telling people, no Democrat has won the White House since 1916 without winning West Virginia.”

So the question is, how long has Hillary been telling this to people, and when she does, do they give her any meds?  Maybe she needs a rubber biscuit.

So you all seem to be acknowledging without quite saying it that there is something to the notion that Hillary Clinton has not been treated with exactly the greatest respect by the press. And let’s face it, I mean, there have been many times in this campaign — not in the last few weeks during the whole Jeremiah Wright controversy, for example — when, you know, to use one example of it, when journalists said, as Chris Matthews once did, that they’ve got to throw up their leg when Barack Obama speaks.

We hope journalists really aren’t vomiting their appendages. We hope we won’t soon see arms getting thrown up, as well. Gag me with a spoon, indeed.

The Navy’s newest guided missile destroyer was christened Saturday with the name of a fighter pilot who spent 7 1/2 years in captivity in North Vietnam, received the Medal of Honor and served as presidential candidate Ross Perot’s running mate.

Four Medal of Honor recipients and seven former prisoners of war attended the ceremony at Bath Iron Works that marked a milestone in construction of the 9,200-ton ship named for Vice Adm. James Stockdale….

Stockdale was a friend of author Tom Wolfe, who was fascinated by his research into Stoicism and was inspired to make the ancient philosophy a central theme of his 1998 best-seller, “A Man in Full,” Sidney Stockdale said.

After retiring from the Navy in 1979, James Stockdale served as president of The Citadel and later became a senior research fellow at the Hoover Institution at Stanford University.

Memphis Commercial Appeal’s Blake Fontenay: According to U.S. Rep. Steve Cohen, D-Memphis, she may be starting to more closely resemble another famous movie character: The psycho lady played by Glenn Close in “Fatal Attraction.”

When asked about whether Clinton should drop out of the race on Fox 13’s “Good Morning Memphis” program today, Cohen said: “Glenn Close should have stayed in that tub.”

Two Hollywood actors who dined with Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) in early 2001 at actress Candice Bergen’s home confirmed Thursday that he told the assembled group he did not vote for George W. Bush in the 2000 election.

In separate phone interviews, Bradley Whitford and Richard Schiff — both of whom starred in the television political drama “The West Wing” — said the senator made the remarks after he spoke at length about his reservations about Bush becoming president. Liberal blogger Arianna Huffington first wrote about the incident Monday, asserting neither McCain nor his wife Cindy backed Bush in his first presidential bid, and the Los Angeles Times reported Wednesday that a woman who was also at the dinner confirmed Huffington’s account, though she declined to give her name.

If nothing else, the nonsense gives us a rare opportunity to point how how starved for entertainment the Russian Republic of Mordovia is, having once done this …

House Republican Leader John Boehner stepped to John McCain’s defense late Thursday night, comparing Barack Obama to former President Jimmy Carter, a high insult to many American voters who remember long gas lines, double-digit inflation, talk of a national malaise and the failed rescue mission of American hostages in Iran during his presidency.

Wow, what a legacy.  And that’s before we get to all his great work these days with Hamas.

As for me, when I think Jimmy Carter, only one thing really comes to mind:

“I’ve been counted out more than once. But thanks to all of you I’ve come back,” Clinton said, earning a thunderous, extended ovation. She later added, “When I was counted out in New Hampshire, it was the women of New Hampshire who came back and said, ‘No, she’s not finished yet.’ When I was counted out before Super Tuesday it was women from California to Massachusetts who came and said ‘No, we’re not finished yet.’ When I was counted out before Ohio, before Indiana, we have always come back.”

Five citations of “I” in a very short span. Which makes you wonder, is her campaign about America, or her?

The towns of Cross Lanes, Nitro, and Poca are all near Charleston WV. Poca’s high school sports teams are called the Dots. I’m not making it up.

Interestingly, the school mascot bears an uncanny resemblance to a caged-up Mark Penn.

Personally, we’re hoping Teddy Roosevelt gets a say, as well.

Democracy.  Military might.  Strong, reliable ally of America.  Front-lines in the global war on terror.

But more important, as CNN put it, “Israel is hip, sexy, and fun.”

I sure hope I look that good when I turn 60.
