Tom Davis Fiddles While Leslie Byrnes
January 29, 2008 at 9:55 am
Our intrepid, sleuthy colleages at Not Larry Sabato yesterday broke this banner headline news: “TOM DAVIS TO ANNOUNCE RETIREMENT AT THE END OF THIS WEEK.” NLS also got a nice plug at Kos. (The DC Examiner provides this story today).
So imagine our glee to hear the Republican Virginia Congressman on WTOP radio this morning discussing President Bush’s State of the Union Address.
After knocking Congress for failing to act on important agenda items, but also noting Bush’s ratings are in the “trashcan,” Davis was asked about his possible retirement.
Davis began by noting that two years ago he turned down a position at a DC trade association. As for the present, he said headhunters have been calling him, and said there’s no question he could make a nice living in the private sector. Davis: “I’m going to mull this thing through, and anybody who says they know what I’m going to do knows more than I do.” Davis also said he’s talked with 11th District House candidates in both parties.
We’ll probably know the answer by week’s end.
