We learn:
The rock group Heart, angry that its ’70s hit “Barracuda” is being used as the unofficial theme song for Republican Vice Presidential nominee Sarah Palin, is taking aim at the Alaska governor. The song, a nod to the “Sarah Barracuda” nickname Palin earned on the basketball court in high school, was dusted off for her appearance at the Republican National Convention in St. Paul on Wednesday.
All of which makes us wonder, what if the Democrats had played “Crazy On You” after Bill Clinton addressed their convention?

Thanks to today’s Toronto Star’s front page, and some casual juxtaposition of top headlines, we learn that no only did Sarah Palin aim and fire, her direct attack might have caused three deaths.

Great shot by Michael Silence at Sally Quinn for her Sarah Palin observations (via Instapundit):
“I agree with Quinn. All Palin is qualified to do is be a newspaper columnist.”

Sarah Palin’s line last night — “The difference between a hockey mom and a pit bull? Lipstick.” — surely will go down as one of the funniest jokes ever told at the podium of a party convention. The fact that it was ad libbed will make it all the more legendary.
Here’s proof it’s already catching on — that capitalist/pop culture measuring stick known as instant T-shirt (click here to see full version):

Jim Mills writes in The Hill about Sarah Palin’s speech tonight:
I haven’t been out on a blind date since the Carter administration, but I gotta tell you — I am more excited than I care to admit about my date tonight with a woman named Sarah.
Which gives us an opportunity to dust off an old Extreme Mortman joke: I haven’t been on a date in so long, for me it’s not dating, it’s carbon dating.

Check out the great column about John McCain by our old friend Jim Mills in The Hill:
On Thursday night, when John McCain climbs that stage and makes those few final steps to the podium to accept his partys nomination for the highest office in the land, he will know, and we will know, and all those who have ever been crossed off a list, written off, or counted as roadkill will know, there is nothing more powerful than a man or woman who, against all odds, and with no one there to applaud the action, summons the courage to continue believing.

Palin and Pawlenty — A double-barreled, P-powered Republican dream ticket one day?
