Tuesday Charity Plugs

March 11, 2008 at 11:21 am

On the charitable side of the news, we wanted to bring to your attention some new developments in causes that Extreme Mortman supports and champions.

First — America Supports You.

A new PSA titled “Why Your Letters to the Troops Matter”:

In short, your support may be the most important thing our troops can carry with them. But don’t take our word for it. Take theirs.

To show your support, visit http://AmericaSupportsYou.mil

Brought to you by the U.S. Department of Defense and the Ad Council.

Second, the Funniest Fed Competition — a hilarious charitable competition among federal employees which we were honored to judge last year.

Contestant Rob Raffety put together a short documentary about the event.  And — shazam! — the film was accepted into the DC Independent Film Festival!  It will screen this Thursday evening, March 13, at 7pm at GWU’s Jack Morton Auditorium as part of the “Just for Laughs” program of comedy-themed shorts.

Click here for the film’s site on the DCIFF webpage, where you can view a trailer and see some still production photos:

Also, the film was referenced in the Washington Post’s Weekend section on Friday.

Here at Extreme Mortman, not only do we love the charity and congratulate Rob Rafferty for cinematic success, but we note that yours truly is interviewed in the film.  Now there’s reason enough to see it — or at least to turn your cell phones and electronic devices back on while we’re on screen.

This picture from the film accurately represents the impact Extreme Mortman has had on the effort:

Why would anyone want to say this?

“The losers don’t get voted off the island.  Instead, they’re forced to take early retirement buyouts.”

Funniest Fed Competition

May 8, 2007 at 5:26 pm

A rare night out for Extreme Mortman Wednesday. We’ll be at the Arlington Cinema Drafthouse for comedy. Not performing. Judging. Opening night of the 2007 Funniest Fed Competition. Who’s the funniest federal employee? I’ll be looking for anyone who can make fun of the government’s pension program, FERS. Something like, no animals were harmed in the making of FERS … fakes only. Or something like that. Trust me, it’ll kill.

If you’re an Extreme Mortman reader, come on by. Tell them I sent you and maybe they’ll add a few bucks to the admission fee. It’s all for a good cause. The DC Madam’s legal defense fund, I believe.

Funniest Feds Take Their Meds

April 11, 2007 at 2:51 pm

Here at Extreme Mortman’s world rhyming headquarters, we’re just giddy with excitement over the approaching Funniest Fed competition.  Yours truly will be a judge.  And if you remember our losing performance against Joe Lieberman in the DC Funniest Celebrity competition at the Improv some time back in the hazy late ’90s, you’ll know that we’re not bitter …. just vengeful.

Meantime, check out Anne Schroeder’s exceptionally brilliant Shenanigans column on the topic.  Funniest Fred anyone?
