Sinkhole de Mayo?

From the Washington Post:

President Bush may have been sending a signal about the fate of Attorney General Alberto R. Gonzales yesterday. At a Cinco de Mayo celebration in the Rose Garden, Bush introduced his old friend as “the eternal general of the United States.”

Cinco de Mayo commemorates the defeat of the French by the Mexicans in 1862, an achievement right down there with the defeat of the Italians by the Ethiopians in 1891. (The Italians, like Custer, had left their machine guns at home. Second time around, under Mussolini in 1935, the Italians corrected this mistake, and threw in airplanes & poison gas just to make sure.)
