Suite Caroline

We learn from the good folks at Not Larry Sabato that Barack Obama has picked Caroline Kennedy to help pick his running-mate.

A smart move, if you like symbolism.  But what if you don’t like political dynasties?

There are some people who think political dynasties should be defeated.

People like Michelle Obama:

On Tuesday night, Michelle Obama said that her husband was a proven winner despite competing against “a political dynasty,” raising record amounts of money, collecting the most delegates and closing the superdelegate gap with Hillary Rodham Clinton.

People like Michelle Obama:

She recounted that when he began his run for the presidency, no one thought he could beat “an inevitable candidate” from “a political dynasty,” another reference to Mrs. Clinton.

People like Michelle Obama:

‘’They said there was no way he could raise the money to compete against a political dynasty,'’ she said, never mentioning the name of his opponent Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton.

Some political dynasties are more equal than others. The Kennedy Dynasty endorsed Obama, while the Clinton Dynasty opposed him. And actually, only the Kennedy’s are a ‘dynasty’, in that they’ve successfully transitioned their family business into the second generation. Bill Clinton was as much of a self-made man as Obama.

Can you say Senator Michelle Obama? Heck, if Obama sustains the con into the White House, the Illinois Governor could appoint Michelle Obama to his US Senate seat. Why not? It’s new. It’s politics. It’s the new politics. The first black woman US Senator. Change and hope! Say amen, brother.

Michelle Obama could only become the SECOND Black woman Senator from Illinois. Carol Moseley-Braun was elected in 1992 and served from 1993-1999. She was defeated for re-election in 1998 by Peter Fitzgerald. Barak Obama won this seat in 2004.

Jabba the Tutt is being rather ridiculous in stating that Obama will certainly appoint his own wife as his replacement for Senator, and then crow that the first (actually second) black female Senator is now on the job.

JabbaTutt, you’d be looking far more interesting and intelligent if you’d simply raised the possibility and then mentioned that you thought it was “highly likely” because of your own view of Obama.

My own view is that Obama is an extremely smart political operative who would never make that kind of a mistake, because appointing your wife as your own successor would be astoundingly stupid for any President. I don’t see any chance of him doing that because no one politician at a higher level than CITY politics could be stupid enough to make that mistake.

Everywhere I go on the web these days, I see the most outlandish and ridiculous things being said. The internet’s becoming a free “National Enquirer”, of the stupid, by the stupid, and for the stupid. It’s a shame. I really can’t find many sites at all where people even try to be thoughtful and wise. They just slam on their keyboards and output hot opinion, unburdening themselves to the world, hit Submit, and probably cackle gleefully once their words - I exist! I exist! I exist! - once their words appear in the list of comments on the screen.

    Sad and pitiful.

Why is Caroline Kennedy qualified to choose a Vice President of the United States? Other than being the Kennedy that helped move other Kennedy’s away from Hillary, what experience does she have?
