Spare Change You Can Believe In

June 20, 2008 at 6:14 am

The hits on Barack Obama keep on coming.

Et tu, Washington Post?  You bet.

Two doozies from today’s paper.

One in the news section:

“John McCain’s campaign and the Republican National Committee are fueled by contributions from Washington lobbyists and special interest PACs,” Obama said in his message to supporters yesterday. “And we’ve already seen that he’s not going to stop the smears and attacks from his allies running so-called 527 groups, who will spend millions and millions of dollars in unlimited donations.”

To date, no conservative 527 groups have materialized.

And the other, the editorial:

Politicians do what politicians need to do. But they ought to spare us the self-congratulatory back-patting while they’re doing it.

Barack Obama

This is a good sign that the MSM might actually do some questioning of Obama, but I don’t hold out much hope. In the end, I think McCain will have to go nuclear and use Rev. Wright and Bill Ayers relentlessly. This latest move by Obama proves conclusively (as if more proff was needed) that Obama is totally without scruples.

The MSM is happy to build their “tough-but-fair” bone fides in June when no one is paying attention, but you won’t see this stuff in September. Believe me, they are on the Obama bandwagon. Remember, the NYT printed the unsubstantiated McCain affair story — show me the MSM outlet that would do that to Obama. McCain better hope their really are some 527s out there to do his dirty work, because you won’t see the law firm of Wright, Rezko, and Ayers mentioned again without 527s. If McCain’s only way to reach the American people is through the media, he’s doomed.

The MSM was knocked off stride by the mourning for Time Russert — now nearly over one hopes and next time a talking head kicks off could we merely cancel all programming for a week and play classical music — but it’ll return to the primary mission of putting Obama in the White House simply because he’s a left and not a Republican. Don’t be misled by minor distractions that crop up from time to time.

It could be that even a portion of the left wing media is beginning to recognize that Obama is too far left and dangerously naive and duplicitous.

I have sucked it up, overcome my scruples, and just sent money to McCain.

The alternative, BO, is just too frightening to contemplate for the country I love.

At this point, BO has much more money for ads AND a virtual unlimited supply of positive free media coverage. I know reporters. They are in the tank for Obama and they always will be.

I think Republicans and conservatives everywhere need to adopt the lesser of two evils approach, and send money to McCain. Otherwise, he will be totally outspent. Thre’s nothing we can do about the free publicity, but we can help buy ads.

Clearly, the media are in the tank with BO. Even the liberals admit it as this posting points out.

Knock it off with all that whining, wouldja? From the minute Obama became the ‘presumptive’, the right-wingers have been frothing at the mouth with muslimwhiteymichellebirthcertificate smears - and that’s only the first two weeks.

The first black guy in contention for the presidency would be a FOOL not to come as well armed as humanly possible against the Rove/Atwater smear machine.

Tough luck, McCain - I’d say you’re done.

Point of order: those smears (which were smears because they were bogus) were brought out by anti-Obama DEMOCRATS. Sure, they did it under the absurd fig leaf of “OMG the Republicans are going to use this!!!”, but come on.

The major pushers of the “whitey” rumor were Larry Johnson and Bob Beckel, Democratic strategists and Hillary partisans both.

The right-wing “smears” have mostly been about Wright and Ayers, which have the advantage of uncomfortable truth.

The left defines any criticism of Obama as a smear by a racist. Deal with it.

This is a tiny lovers’ spat between the Messiah and His adoring media. Come September all will be sweetness and light, if only the embittered G*d-and-guns-clinging typical white people can be disposed of.
