Pace Maker

Courtesy of the Scott’s Morning Brew blog, I came across the Draft General Pace site, “a grassroots movement to draft Gen Peter Pace to run for the US Senate.”
Of course, these days you can set up a web site or blog to create a grassroots movement to demand just about anything, like getting a ham sandwich to run for office.
What impresses me about this site, however, is what seems like an abundance of content. It looks like they’re getting up a new post every day, quite an accomplishment for any singularly-focused blog.
My favorite of their posts? The one that pulled this off:
In 1952, the Draft Eisenhower movement persuaded another great American Patriot to run for elected office. This grassroots movement eventually led to the nomination and election of Dwight D. Eisenhower. This grassroots movement has one goal: to recruit Gen Peter Pace to run for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by John Warner in Virginia.
Marcus Aurelius: Won’t you accept this great honor that I have offered you?
Maximus: With all my heart, no.
Marcus Aurelius: Maximus, that is why it must be you. This quote is from the movie Gladiator, the 2000 film starring Russell Crowe.
Outstanding. Connecting Ike to Russell Crowe so skillfully, so effortlessly. That’s guts. That’s glory. I’m hooked — at least on the blog.

The military drafted me in ‘70. I guess I can return the favor. Why not…draft General Pace.

Personally, I’m in favor of drafting the ham sandwich. Maybe we can lower taxes if we send some pork to Washington instead of the other way around.
