Macacawitz: Howard Kurtz Hands Down His Ruling

September 20, 2006 at 8:41 am

Washington Post media critic Howard Kurtz this morning issued his ruling on the George Allen-Peggy Fox mishugas.

Whose side does Kurtz come down on?  Mostly George Allen’s.

Kurtz tells this to WTWP radio about George Allen challenging Channel 9 reporter Peggy Fox to answer why the question of Allen’s Jewish hertiage was relevant to the debate against Jim Webb: “That was a fair question.”

Kurtz notes, “Reporters come up with ways for politicians to trip up.”  And: “A lot of voters have got to be asking, what’s this got do with me.”  And: “Generally low reputation of the media seems to be fueled by this.”  And: “The press gets bored by the issues.”

Seems like a George Allen victory.  Of course, I wouldn’t want to cast “aspersions” on Kurtz.

UPDATE:  Extreme Mortman agrees that we need to hear more about the issues.  For instance, would love to know where the Virginia Senate candidates stand on the Social Security lox box.
